1. The Lollapalooza Factor
READ THIS BEFORE YOU BOOK ANYTHING
Lollapalooza 2026 takes place at Grant Park from Thursday, July 30 through Sunday, August 2 โ the final day runs simultaneously with Leeds vs Liverpool at Soldier Field, just south of the festival grounds. The event draws 400,000+ attendees across four days and transforms downtown Chicago.
What that means for you: hotels across the entire city โ especially the Loop, River North, and Michigan Avenue corridor โ are already expensive and will sell out fast, so book accommodation immediately and stick to the areas recommended in the Where to Stay section. Major streets around Grant Park will be closed July 29 through August 5 (Balbo Drive, Jackson, Columbus Drive, Monroe Street), and Columbus Drive runs directly alongside Soldier Field, affecting approaches to the stadium. On the day of the match, CTA trains will be running extra service but will be very crowded, and Uber/Lyft surge pricing will be significant. Bars and restaurants near Grant Park and River North will be overrun โ Taylor Street, the West Loop, and Pilsen are far better bets for the weekend.
The easy solution: take the Embassy bus. The Chicago Whites are running round-trip coach (read: school bus) transport between The Embassy Public House on Taylor Street and Soldier Field. No road closure headaches, no packed trains, and you travel with fellow Leeds fans. CLICK HERE to see details, purchase bus tickets, and pick up exclusive Embassy x Leeds merch.

3. Getting to Chicago
By Air
O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
Chicago's main international hub, with direct service from most major US cities and international destinations. Located about 17 miles northwest of downtown. Take the CTA Blue Line directly to the city center (~45 min, $2.50) or grab an Uber/Lyft (~30โ45 min depending on traffic). Expect heavier-than-usual congestion all week due to Lollapalooza.
Midway Airport (MDW)
Chicago's second airport โ primarily domestic, particularly Southwest Airlines. Located about 11 miles southwest of downtown. The CTA Orange Line connects directly to the Loop (~30 min).
By Train
Amtrak's Chicago Union Station is a major hub with connections from New York (Lake Shore Limited), Washington D.C., New Orleans, and many other cities. A great option for supporters attending multiple tour matches. Union Station is in the West Loop, about a 10-minute Uber from the Embassy.
๐ Google Maps โ Union Station
Coming from Milwaukee? The Amtrak Hiawatha runs up to seven round-trips daily between Milwaukee and Chicago Union Station, covering the 86 miles in about 90 minutes. Tickets start at $19 each way. It's a no-brainer โ skip the traffic and the parking. Book at amtrak.com
4. Getting Around Chicago
Chicago's CTA "L" (elevated rail) is the backbone of the transit system and the easiest way to get around. On Lollapalooza weekend it will be very busy โ especially the Red, Green, and Orange lines through downtown. For getting to Soldier Field specifically on matchday, see the Matchday โ Getting to Soldier Field section.
CTA "L" Train โ $2.50 per ride. Pay with a Ventra card (available at any station), contactless credit/debit card, or the Ventra app. Pass options: 3-day unlimited: $15 (great for a weekend visit), 7-day unlimited: $20. Download the Ventra app and purchase your pass before you arrive โ the time limit doesn't start until first use in Chicago. The Pink Line serves the Near West Side closest to Taylor Street.
CTA Bus โ Buses cover areas the L doesn't reach. The #8 Halsted and #9 Ashland buses serve the Taylor Street area.
For navigating all CTA โ L and bus โ Apple Maps, Google Maps, the Transit app, and Citymapper are all reliable for real-time tracking and trip planning. Download one before you arrive.
Uber / Lyft / Curb โ Uber and Lyft are widely available. Curb is also worth downloading โ it's functionally the same experience but hails licensed taxi cabs, which can sometimes work out cheaper when Uber and Lyft are surging. Expect significant surge pricing across all platforms on August 2 due to Lollapalooza and the match running at the same time. Not recommended for matchday unless you have no other option.
Divvy Bikes โ Chicago's dock-based bike-share system. Great for short trips between Taylor Street, the West Loop, and surrounding neighborhoods. Book directly through the Divvy app or within the Lyft app. Single ride: $1 unlock + 17ยข/min. Day pass: $15 for unlimited 3-hour rides.
August 2 transport note: Columbus Drive โ a main approach to Soldier Field โ will be closed for Lollapalooza. CTA will be extremely crowded. Strongly recommend the Embassy supporters bus โ details and tickets here.

6. Where to Stay
Book now. Lollapalooza weekend is one of the most heavily booked weekends on Chicago's calendar. The Loop, River North, and Michigan Avenue corridor will be overpriced and largely sold out. Book in the areas below as soon as possible.
Best areas:
Little Italy / Taylor Street โ closest to the Embassy, excellent neighborhood, well clear of the Lolla chaos
West Loop / Fulton Market โ great food scene, 10โ15 minutes from Taylor Street
Near West Side / UIC โ more affordable, walkable to the Embassy
South Loop / Pilsen โ south of Grant Park, avoids the main Lollapalooza congestion
AVOID: The Loop, River North, Michigan Avenue, Millennium Park area โ all are near Grant Park and will be at peak Lollapalooza chaos
Top Pick
The Neighborhood Hotel Little Italy โ ๐ 1431 W. Taylor St
Apartment-style suites with full kitchens, directly next door to the Embassy. Stylish, well-equipped, perfect location. Book immediately.
Other Options
The Emily Hotel (West Loop) โ ๐ 311 N. Morgan St. Stylish boutique hotel in the heart of the West Loop with great access to Fulton Market dining and nightlife.
Hyatt House Chicago West Loop (West Loop) โ ๐ 28 N May St. Extended-stay style rooms with kitchenettes in a great West Loop location.
Courtyard by Marriott Chicago West Loop/Fulton Market (West Loop) โ ๐ 625 S Ashland Ave. Reliable mid-range option, well located for Taylor Street and the West Loop.
Given Lollapalooza's impact on availability and pricing, we recommend checking beyond these specific suggestions โ inventory shifts quickly that weekend and new options open up. Airbnb and similar in Pilsen, Wicker Park, or the Near West Side are also worth exploring, all well-connected by CTA and away from the Lollapalooza footprint. Great for groups.
Feeling bougie? The Hoxton Chicago (๐ 200 N Green St) is one of the coolest hotels in the city โ a design-forward Fulton Market property with a rooftop pool, three bars and restaurants (including Cabra, chef Stephanie Izard's Peruvian rooftop), and a buzzy lobby that doubles as a neighborhood hangout. Or go all the way and book the Nobu Hotel Chicago (๐ 155 N Peoria St) โ Japanese minimalism meets West Loop industrial in a 115-room boutique with an indoor tranquility pool, world-class in-house restaurant, and a rooftop bar with skyline views.
7. Where to Eat
Chicago has one of America's great food cities, and Taylor Street / Little Italy is one of its most historic culinary neighborhoods. Start here, then explore.
Chicago Essentials
Al's #1 Italian Beef โ The Original โญ
๐ 1079 W. Taylor St ยท 4 blocks from the Embassy
If you eat one thing in Chicago, make it this. Al's has been serving the defining Chicago Italian beef sandwich since 1938 โ thinly-sliced seasoned beef packed into a crusty roll, dipped in the cooking au jus, and finished with hot giardiniera. This Taylor Street location is the original. Order it "wet and hot." The skin-on fries are non-negotiable.
Deep Dish Pizza
Deep dish takes 45+ minutes to bake, so it's not a quick bite. Top picks:
Chicago-Style Hot Dog
A Vienna Beef hot dog in a poppy seed bun, topped with mustard, relish, onion, tomato, pickle, sport peppers, and celery salt. Never, ever with ketchup. The place to go: Portillo's, a Chicago institution.
๐ 520 W Taylor St
Taylor Street & Little Italy
Rosebud on Taylor โ ๐ 1500 W. Taylor St
One of Chicago's most beloved Italian-American restaurants, right on the block. Classic red sauce, generous portions, great for groups.
Peanut Park Trattoria โ ๐ 1359 W. Taylor St
A more modern Italian joint from the team behind Coalfire and Tempesta Market, right on Taylor Street. Handmade pastas, pizza, and a solid cocktail menu. Rooftop dining available in warm weather. One of the most exciting newer additions to the neighborhood.
West Loop / Fulton Market
Au Cheval โ ๐ 800 W Randolph St
Famous for what many consider Chicago's best burger. No reservations โ expect a wait, but it's worth it. If you want the same great burger without the wait, head to Small Cheval nearby โ a stripped-down spinoff with a shorter menu and far shorter line. ๐ 1352 W Lake St, Fulton Market
Green Street Smoked Meats โ ๐ 112 N Green St
Nationally acclaimed Central Texas-style BBQ down a brick-paved alley in the West Loop. Counter service, picnic tables, string lights, rock music, brisket, pulled pork, and cold beer. No reservations, no fuss.
South Loop
Flo & Santos โ ๐ 1310 S Wabash Ave
A South Loop tavern a short walk from Soldier Field. Part Italian, part Polish โ tavern-style thin crust pizza, housemade pierogies, kielbasa, and their famous pork wings. 17 screens throughout. A solid pre-match stop.
First Draft โ ๐ 649 S Clark St
A South Loop neighborhood brewpub with 64 beers on tap, solid comfort food, and 23 TVs. Good-value, no-frills, exactly what you want before a match.
Kasey's Tavern โ ๐ 701 S Dearborn St
Chicago's second-oldest tavern, tucked into the historic Printer's Row neighborhood. Over 130 beers on tap and in bottles, worn wooden bar, zero pretension. A proper pub.
8. Where to Drink
The Embassy Public House โ ย ๐ 1435 W. Taylor St
Your first and last stop. The official Chicago Whites pub, open early on matchday, packed with fellow supporters, running buses to and from Soldier Field.
Guinness Open Gate Brewery โ ๐ 901 W. Kinzie St, Fulton Market / West Loop
The second US location of the Guinness brewery, housed in a stunning converted former Pennsylvania Railroad Terminal. Full taproom with Chicago-brewed beers (including exclusive experimental brews), a restaurant serving pub food, and the world's first Guinness Bakery. About 1.5 miles from the Embassy โ a perfect afternoon excursion earlier in the weekend.
Also Recommended
Recess (West Loop) โ ๐ 838 W Kinzie St

Kaiser Tiger (West Loop) โ ๐ 1415 W Randolph St
A West Loop gastropub built around beer, sausage, and bacon โ with a huge beer garden out back. Extensive craft beer list, gourmet sausages, and a great summer vibe. One of the better spots for a big group on a warm evening.
Goose Island Salt Shed Pub (Lincoln Park) โ gooseisland.com/saltshedpub
Goose Island's brewpub at the Salt Shed music venue on the North Branch. One of the city's most beloved craft brewers โ the 312 Urban Wheat and Bourbon County Stout are Chicago icons. Great atmosphere, great beer.
Haymarket Pub & Brewery (Near West Side) โ ๐ 737 W Randolph St
Award-winning brewpub close to Union Station and the West Loop. Multiple house taps including excellent stouts and ales.
Avoid the Grant Park / River North bar scene on August 2. Bars in that corridor will be packed with Lollapalooza crowds all day. Taylor Street and the West Loop are the move.
Coffee
Two Shades Coffee โ ๐ Taylor Street
Right in the neighborhood โ a great morning stop before a day of exploring.
Sawada Coffee โ ๐ 112 N Green St, West Loop
World-class Japanese-style coffee shop tucked inside the same alley complex as Green Street Smoked Meats. One of the best cups in the city.
La Colombe โ ๐ 955 W Randolph St, West Loop
The Philadelphia-born roaster's West Loop outpost. Excellent espresso and their signature draft latte. A solid stop on the way to or from Fulton Market.
9. Chicago Neighborhoods
A quick orientation to the parts of the city most useful for this trip โ roughly center outward.
The Loop / Downtown โ Chicago's commercial core: the Riverwalk, Millennium Park, the Art Institute, Willis Tower, and the elevated L tracks that give the neighborhood its name. Best for sightseeing and architecture.
River North โ Just north of the Loop. Dense with restaurants, bars, steakhouses, and nightlife. One of the most convenient areas for a night out and home to some of the city's best-known dining spots.
West Loop / Fulton Market โ Chicago's hottest neighborhood for food and drink, centered on restaurant-row Randolph Street and the booming Fulton Market. The Guinness Open Gate Brewery is here. About a mile north of Taylor Street.
Little Italy / Taylor Street โ The historic Italian-American heart of the city and your home base for this trip. The Embassy is here, along with a string of classic neighborhood restaurants and โ a few doors down โ the birthplace of the Chicago Italian beef sandwich.
Old Town โ Charming, tree-lined neighborhood known for the Second City comedy club, the Wells Street bar strip, and a relaxed, walkable feel.
Lincoln Park โ Upscale residential neighborhood with excellent restaurants, the free Lincoln Park Zoo, and lakefront access. A good spot for a quieter dinner or a morning walk.
Wicker Park / Bucktown โ Creative, indie neighborhood with excellent independent bars, restaurants, and coffee shops. The intersection of Damen, Milwaukee, and North avenues is the epicenter โ a cluster of some of the city's best casual spots all within steps of each other, right off the Blue Line (Damen stop). Highlights include Piece Brewery & Pizzeria (New Haven-style pizza and great house-brewed beer), Big Star (legendary tacos and whiskey), Paradise Park (a lively trailer park-themed pizza and patio bar with great vibes for groups), and Stan's Donuts. Well out of the way of the Lollapalooza chaos โ a great option for the whole weekend.
Wrigleyville / Lakeview โ Home to Wrigley Field and the lively Clark Street bar strip. The Cubs are in town that weekend โ see Things to Do.
Pilsen โ Chicago's vibrant Mexican-American neighborhood on the near south side. Known for colorful murals, great taquerias, and a thriving arts and music scene.
10. Matchday: Getting to Soldier Field
Kickoff: 3:00 PM CT, Sunday, August 2, 2026
๐ Soldier Field ยท 1410 S Museum Campus Dr ยท Event Page
Soldier Field sits on the lakefront south of Grant Park. On a normal day it's very accessible โ on Lollapalooza Sunday it requires planning.
Embassy Supporters Bus โญ Recommended
The Chicago Whites are running round-trip transportation between The Embassy Public House and Soldier Field โ buses depart before kickoff and return after the final whistle. Travel with fellow Leeds fans and avoid all road closure and transit chaos. CLICK HERE to see details, purchase bus tickets, and pick up exclusive Embassy x Leeds merch.
CTA โ Roosevelt Station
Take the Red, Green, or Orange Line to Roosevelt station โ about a 10โ15 minute walk south to Soldier Field. From Taylor Street, take the Pink Line east to Clark/Lake, then transfer to the Red, Green, or Orange Line southbound to Roosevelt. On August 2, expect these trains to be very crowded with both Lollapalooza attendees and match traffic. Give yourself at least 90 minutes before kickoff.
Uber / Lyft
Possible, but expect significant surge pricing and delays due to Lollapalooza road closures. Columbus Drive โ which runs along the east side of the stadium โ is closed through August 5. Drop-off will need to be on the west side of the closures. Allow extra time.
Soldier Field quick facts: Home of the Chicago Bears NFL team. Capacity ~61,500 for soccer. Clear bags only (max 12"ร6"ร12"). Concessions and alcohol available inside.
11. Things to Do
Chicago is an extraordinary city to explore. Here are the highlights โ and some that tie directly into the match weekend.
Navy Pier
Chicago's iconic lakefront pier is worth a visit for the views and the atmosphere, and on Saturday, August 1, the free weekly fireworks show launches at 10:00 PM โ one of the better free summer nights the city has to offer. The pier has bars, restaurants, and the Centennial Wheel, and sits right on Lake Michigan with great skyline views looking back toward downtown. Worth noting: Navy Pier is relatively close to Grant Park and will have significant Lollapalooza crowd spillover โ go earlier in the evening and be aware it will be busy.

Rooftop Bars with a View
Chicago has some genuinely spectacular rooftop bars โ worth booking in advance, especially on Lollapalooza weekend when they'll fill up fast.
LH Rooftop at LondonHouse Chicago โ Chicago's only tri-level rooftop bar, perched above Michigan Avenue and the Chicago River. Sweeping views of the Mag Mile and the river from the 22nd-floor terrace. Cocktails, bites, and a great summer atmosphere. Reservations strongly recommended.
๐ 360 N Michigan Ave
Cindy's at the Chicago Athletic Association โ Widely considered one of the best rooftop views in the city: panoramic sweeps of Millennium Park, Lake Michigan, and the downtown skyline from the 13th-floor glass atrium and open-air terrace. Full food and cocktail menu. Book well in advance โ this fills up on weekends.
๐ 12 S Michigan Ave
Chicago Riverwalk
Stretching along the south bank of the Chicago River through the heart of the Loop, the Riverwalk is one of the best places in the city to spend a sunny day or warm evening. A string of bars, restaurants, and outdoor patios line the water โ perfect for a casual bar crawl with the downtown skyline overhead. Free to walk, and most spots don't require reservations. A couple of standouts along the way: Chicago Brewhouse on the Riverwalk and Tiny Tapp.
Chicago Architecture Boat Tour
The best single thing you can do as a first-time visitor. 90-minute narrated river cruises depart regularly from the Chicago Riverwalk and showcase one of the world's great skylines from the water. Book in advance โ First Lady Cruises.
Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field
The Cubs are home all weekend long โ a Wrigley Field game is one of the great American sports experiences, and Wrigleyville's Clark Street bar strip is a blast before and after. Buy tickets: mlb.com/cubs/tickets

Saturday, August 2 ยท 6:15 PM โ Cubs vs. New York Yankees

Millennium Park & The Bean
Cloud Gate โ "the Bean" โ is Chicago's most photographed landmark. Worth visiting Thursday or Friday while it's still accessible; parts of Grant Park may have restricted access once Lollapalooza is fully set up.
๐ Millennium Park
Willis Tower Skydeck & 360 CHICAGO
Two great options for iconic city views. The glass-floor Skydeck on the 103rd floor of Willis Tower offers some of the most dramatic views in the city. Alternatively, 360 CHICAGO on the 94th floor of the John Hancock Center offers equally stunning panoramas โ including a tilting glass experience โ with shorter lines and a slightly more relaxed feel. Book timed entry in advance for either.
Chicago Lakefront Trail
18 miles of lakefront path โ perfect for an early morning run, walk, or Divvy ride with the skyline at your back and Lake Michigan stretching to the horizon.
12. Weather
August in Chicago is hot, humid, and occasionally stormy.
Average high: 83ยฐF / 28ยฐC
Average low: 65ยฐF / 18ยฐC
Humidity: High โ it often feels hotter than the thermometer reads
Thunderstorms: Possible, especially in the afternoon
What to bring:
Lightweight, breathable clothing. Your Leeds shirt for matchday. A light layer for evenings โ indoor air conditioning can be aggressive.
Sunscreen (SPF 50) and a cap โ the summer sun here is strong. Worth noting: the Leeds supporters sections (219โ223) at Soldier Field are in direct sunlight at a 3:00 PM August kickoff. Come prepared.
A packable rain jacket or compact umbrella โ afternoon storms can roll in fast.
Comfortable walking shoes โ the city is very walkable but the distances add up.
Drink water consistently throughout the day, especially if you're out in the sun. Dehydration can sneak up on you in the heat and humidity, particularly over a long matchday.
